About Shelly Campbell

Shelly is both a writer and artist, who is passionate about storytelling and creative expression. Her connection to STARS is deeply personal. In 2009, Shelly was flown by STARS after she needed urgent care following the birth of her child at a small rural hospital. STARS helped her get to the care she needed, just in time.

Shelly’s experience with STARS inspired her to explore the concept of “golden hour,” the brief window when timely care can make a life-changing difference for a critically ill or injured patient. Drawing from her emotional and personal connection to the piece, Shelly set out to capture multiple layers of meaning within the painting. She intentionally created a scene that, without the helicopter and firefighter, would appear to be an ordinary sunset. This reflects how everyday moments can quickly shift and emergencies can arise without warning.
